Assignment #8 TED Talk

The weekly homework is listening one talk on TED,
I chose a talk about a mother whose son had cancer,
so she had recorded her family's feeling by writing a video game,
The player can't win,
whatever they do, they can't change her son - Joel's life.

Talk:https://www.ted.com/talks/amy_green_a_video_game_to_cope_with_grief#t-642803

This talk is very moving,
in this talk, I can feel the deep family love,
when her son had cancer, they still keep going strong.
I can't imagine how hard it is..
I'm touched.

Assignment #6 English song

Hello,everyone!
Today I wanna introduce my favorite song : Mean - Taylor Swift

Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYa1eI1hpDE

Taylor Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter.
She is 27 years old.
Genres:Country,pop

Song's background
In an interview with E! News, Swift said that "Mean" is a response to people who criticize whatever she does. She said, "there's constructive criticism, there's professional criticism, and then there's just being mean.

Lyric:
-----------------------------------------------
You, with your words like knives
And swords and weapons that you use against me
You, have knocked me off my feet again,
Got me feeling like a nothing
You, with your voice like nails
On a chalk board, calling me out when I'm wounded
You, picking on the weaker man You can take me down
With just one single blow
But you don't know what you don't know Someday I'll be living in a big old city
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean? You, with your switching sides
And your wildfire lies and your humiliation
You have pointed out my flaws again
As if I don't already see them
I walk with my head down,
Try to block you out 'cause I never impress you
I just want to feel okay again I bet you got pushed around
Somebody made you cold but the cycle ends right now
'Cause you can't lead me down that road
And you don't know what you don't know Someday I'll be living in a big old city
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean? And I can see you years from now in a bar
Talking over a football game
With that same big loud opinion
But nobody's listening, washed up and ranting
About the same old bitter things
Drunk and grumbling on about how I can't sing
But all you are is mean
All you are is mean and a liar and pathetic
And alone in life and mean, and mean, and mean, and mean But someday I'll be living in a big old city
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Yeah someday I'll be big enough
So you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so (mean)
Someday I'll be living in a big old city
(Why you gotta be so mean) And all you're ever gonna be is mean
(Why you gotta be so mean)
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
(Why you gotta be so mean)
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?
-----------------------------------------------

Three words I learned

1.pathetic
The child looked a pathetic sight.

2.humiliation
the humiliation of having to ask her parents for money

3.weapon
They all had sticks which they planned to use as weapons.

Why I love this song

I love this song because I feel this song is very positive.
We don't need to care about What haters say.
This world has many people who will hit you hard.
But we just keep going and don’t give up.
Someday we'll be successful.
And those people who criticize you can’t hit you anymore.
Everytime I listen this song,I feel so powerful.

# 4 Six Minute English

My homework from Computer Assisted Language Learning is listening to 6 Minutes English this week, and I choose this subject:The way we look.

The audio:http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/features/6-minute-english/ep-151231

This subject is talk about that we used to judged a person by appearance.
That's why appearance is so important to us.
And it's not only people who make decisions about others based on the way they look.
Some animals do this too.Like peahens, prefer male peacocks with lots of eyespots on their tail.
That means the peacock is strongest and healthiest.
And they found  when it comes to appearance, men were most likely to mention their height!

I chose this audio because I really care about my appearance when I was in high school,
I hope I can be a gril who many people like.
But now I love myself so much,I don't care how others judged me,
I know I have many advantages,and I'm a hard-working person.
